Welcome to Steamboat Springs
Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is a renowned year-round mountain destination in the Rocky Mountains known as “Ski Town USA®”. Located in the Yampa Valley, it offers world-class skiing on its famous “Champagne Powder®” at Steamboat Ski Resort, along with hiking, biking, and natural hot springs. The town (pop. ~13,000) maintains an authentic, historic Western, ranching-heritage feel.Steamboat Springs is a home rule municipality that is the county seat of and the most populous municipality in Routt County, Colorado, United States. The population was 13,224 at the 2020 census. Steamboat Springs is the principal city of the Steamboat Springs Micropolitan Statistical Area, and it is the largest city in northwestern Colorado.
The city is a winter ski resort destination, including the Steamboat Ski Resort on Mount Werner in the Park Range just east of the town and the much smaller Howelsen Hill Ski Area. Steamboat Springs has produced more athletes for the Winter Olympics than any other town in North America.
Steamboat Springs – known colloquially as “The Boat” – is located in the upper valley of the Yampa River, along U.S. Highway 40, just west of the Continental Divide and Rabbit Ears Pass. It is located approximately 150 miles northwest of Denver, and sits approximately 45 miles south of the Wyoming border. It is served by Steamboat Springs Airport (general aviation) and commercial service at nearby Yampa Valley Airport.

Getting Here

Driving
Steamboat Springs is a scenic 157 mile drive west of Denver. The views are spectacular along the I-70 corridor and Rabbit Ears Pass and it’s not uncommon for travelers to see wildlife, including elk, mountain goats, big horn sheep, eagles and deer. There are several picturesque route options you can choose to drive into the Yampa Valley.

Flying
Steamboat Springs Airport is a city-owned airport three miles northwest of Steamboat Springs, in Routt County, Colorado.
Larger commercial jet aircraft by scheduled passenger airlines operates into the Yampa Valley Airport (HDN) 25 miles (40 km) west of Steamboat Springs near Hayden, Colorado which can handle Boeing 737 and 757 jetliners as well as Airbus A319 and A320 jets. Year-round service to Denver is provided at HDN by United Express and Southwest Airlines.
